Michael has been involved with Polo since his early teens, when he would goal judge at polo and exercise polo ponies during the summer months. He started to photograph the game shortly afterwards and professionally since 1977.
His archive archive of polo images though predates this time, dating from the early 1950's.
100 of these images were used in his publication "The Royals at Polo," together with archive reports and commisioned features.
The book came about after a chance comment by Prince Charles
during an invitation only Charity Polo Day in Hampshire, where Michael was
the commissioned photographer.

Prince Charles was playing with Princes William and Harry and mentioned that he never saw good polo pictures of himself. Michael chose and printed 25 archive and contemporary shots of Princes Philip, Charles, William and Harry, printed them on art paper, bound them in a leather album and presented it to Prince Charles when Michael was again the commissioned photographer of the day.
Prince Charles was delighted and from this came the Royal Book. A copy was sent to Buckingham Palace for Prince Philip, who replied in person "Thank you.....it bought back many fond memories." He made other comments; the colours for the Windsor Park Polo Team came from "the green cassock, with red collars and cuffs, worn by the choir boys in the chapel at Royal Lodge."
